Importance of Moral Education

Image
Youngsters today go through a brutal education system that goes on almost unendingly. Right from when parents send them to kindergarten at a tender age of 4 or 5 to completing their graduation, there is a constant barrage of information hurled at them. It is a puzzling task to make sense of this vast amount of unstructured information. On top of that, the bar to perform better than peers and meet expectations is set at a quite high level. This makes a youngster lose their curiosity and creativity under the burden. They know ‘how’ to do something but fail to answer the ‘why’. They spend their whole childhood and young age without discovering the real meaning of education. This is where the importance of value education should be established in their life. What is Value Education? Value-based education lays emphasis on the personality’s development of individuals in order to shape their future and tackle difficult situations with ease. It molds the children so they get attuned to cha...

Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligence

Image
In recent years, however, other views of intelligence have emerged. One such conception is the theory of multiple Intelligence proposed by Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner. Gardner first outlined his theory in his 1983 book Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences, where he suggested that all people have different kinds of "intelligence." Gardner proposed that there are eight bits of intelligence, and has suggested the possible addition of a ninth known as " existentialist intelligence ." While a person might be particularly strong in a specific area, such as musical intelligence, he or she most likely possesses a range of abilities. For example, an individual mig...

Preventing and Reducing Gender Bias

Image
We all carry biases that are based on gender; throughout our lives, we receive daily messages about what is expected of different genders. These biases become ingrained and it’s often impossible to completely get rid of them. But, if we can be more aware of our biases, we have a better chance of counteracting them. Gender identity is one’s personal experience of one’s own gender. Gender identity can correlate with assigned sex at birth or can differ from it completely. When children are around 2 years old, they become conscious of the physical differences between boys and girls. Before their third birthday! most children are easily able to label themselves as either a boy or a girl. By age 4, most children have a stable sense of their gender identity. During this same time, children learn gender role behavior that is, doing "things that boys do" or "things that girls do." In order for us to create a classroom space that is open to everyone, it is essential that we...
